STATIC MODELS

Just as real ships and other waterborne craft come in all shapes and sizes, so too do the models that depict them. They represent vessels, and sometimes just parts of them, from across the ages. Perhaps the most important distinguishing feature of the static model is that, as near as the model maker can ensure, it is an exact replica of the full size ship. This involves extensive and detailed research, together with authentication of the information. Static models can be seen at exhibitions, such as those put on by organisations such as MPBA and the Society of Model Shipwrights. These often involve competitions, where models are judged by experienced and knowledgeable modellers. Often, the judging rules used are those of the world organisation NAVIGA
